Ill split it up in seperate topics when i get back on my own PC

In this short tutorial i will explain how to retexture an ArmA2 BIS model. Other addons might have a slightly different approach but the basics are the same.

Requirements:
ArmA2 + Operation Arrowhead
Cpbo.exe
Photoshop (any 32bit version Or PS clone)
Photoshop .paa plugin (Extract to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop X\Plug-ins)
Notepad
Lots of energy and patience
Good file management (ie,Save your work every now and then and never trow away or mod the original files)
A replacement texture (can be anything)

-First determine in what .pbo file the vehicle, object or unit is you want to edit

How to: Extract (Example: CH-47 Chinook):
-COPY Arma2\Expansion\air_e.pbo (275MB) & Cpbo.exe to the desktop.
-Start Cpbo with cmd (win+R > cmd <ent> or start > Run > cmd <ent>)
-First navigate to the desktop folder presuming your cmd starts in your users root folder) with the C:\Users\yourusername>cd desktop <ent> command
-C:\Users\yourusername\Desktop>cpbo.exe -e air_e.pbo new <ent> This will create a new folder called "new" on the desktop with all the air_E.pbo files in it.

How to: Open the Chinook skin.paa >
Because the CH-47 is quite a big object it has two separate .paa files that put together make 1 Chinook. Also the marking text on the side is made by a third .paa (ch47f_nalepky_ca.paa) and is mirrored on both sides in a readable manner.:
C:\Users\yourusername\Desktop\new\CH47\data\
ch47_ext_1_co.paa , ch47_ext_2_co.paa , ch47f_nalepky_ca.paa

Presuming your .paa plugin is installed and loaded and Photoshop is started you can now load the image (Press: Yes to discard the mipmaps)

1.You need a texture (or directly edit the .paa) to blend with the org. vehicle texture. The size of the texture has to be the same size as the object your about to retexture either get one from Google or use a self-made one. Simplest way to get a texture to be the size of the .paa object texture is: To copy the .paa in PS Image>Duplicate>delete (to remove the content). Now fill the hole picture with the texture you wish the hole vehicle to have.

2.Photoshop has a nice function called "Magic wand Tool" this selects all the 'outlines' of objects in a picture for you. Double check if there is anything your missing or needs to be removed to be retextured right requires some figuring out. Once you have everything highlighted that you want on the new texture press ctrl+C.


3.Once you have the required old texture details copied (step 2)go back to the texture image made in step 1 and past the selection on top of it. Now save this to .paa using the plugin and use this .paa to replace the org. file in the C:\Users\yourusername\Desktop\new\CH47\data\ folder. Repeat these steps to also retexture the second part of the CH-47 textures.


Repacking the file:
Go back to cmd as shown in step 1 and give the following command
C:\Users\yourusername\Desktop>cpbo.exe -p new air_e.pbo

Start the game:
This will repack the new folder containing the retextured CH-47 in a repacked .pbo called 'air_e.pbo' for the ArmA engine to recognize as normal. Place this .pbo back in the Arma2\Expansion\ folder (never replace the original but move this to save location) and start the game. In the editor just place the Chinook and preview to view the changed helicopilah!

I've done some more research and this is what ive got so far:

TangoDown have the Dutch forces on there server including weapon upgrades for the units:
if you have SIX installed make sure its turned off and then navigate your browser to: sixupdater://178.251.199.174/repository/TangodownAce.yml this will add a profile including many other mods this might be an easy way to get part of the mods we might need!

Hi Marlboroman, Welcome back Mate! We have not been away and have been hosting ArmA2 every day now for the last 2.5 years. EVO & Warfare mostly with some side missions and mods every now and then. But because of a big drop in the number of players sinds BF3 & MW3 came out in December i have now to decide to also play some other games for the first time in years (BF3, EVE Online, Star Trek Online, NFS Shift 2, and Portal 2). Some of us also play World of Tanks etc. so maybe there are people around that would like to accompany you in a game. Hope to see you online soon for a good old game of ArmA2! Found these semi working old DAF trucks from a 'long gone' modteam called the Lowland Warriors. You cannot enter the vehicles in A2 and i have not found any other usable vehicles inside the mod but maybe it can be used to make a nice ArmA2 worthy Dutch Forces mod.

Hi nwhta, Welcome to the website! At the moment the activity around our Arma2 crew is at an all-time low after 2.5 years of our Arma tour. Our server setup is quite simple.: We have multiple A2 + OA (CO) servers available 24/7/365 for everyone on the net. Most members play around 17.00/24.00u CET but you will find people here all round the clock. We test all kinds of missions and other Arma2 mods that meet the minimal quality required for an enjoyable game but we also host two vanilla servers. In a few months we will start a brand new ArmA3 group and will have a clean start to form a new group of devoted fair gamers that are willing to practice together to refine our tactics used in the field. Until that day arrives the current situation has to do this means you will not see a lot of members and other players on the server unless we will all stand by each other and play a game every now. You will find our server information at the bottom of the main page or through the server tab in the top bar. I hope you will enjoy your stay here with us and if you have any questions just ask!

About joining BG-=XTRA=-: We normally have a one month introduction period for new members in which we try to get know each other better and we can have a look at your online combat skills and teamwork etc.. So if you like we can start the trial at any time. The game is not have bad even tough its not a proper simulator we could use it for training for a while. If the AI would be better drivers it would probably be quite close to what a racing sim should be able to do but i guess it being a NFS title that just wont happen anywhere soon.
I think both me and Madboy are using Anti-Lock Brakes, Traction Control & Stability Control so this is no problem to use. Maybe we can change what we use once we are all aquinted with the game etc..Btw there is no need to hold back on speed becasue of other human players but a little breaking can solve the nasty crashes we all hate so much.
This is great so at this time we have 4 members who play this game with us and it has been very fun to do. So if anyone would like to join us on our little sidetrack games just drop by on TS or leave a message in this topic!

I own a copy of Race '07 to but havend played it very much so we could give it a go! I also have a ISO of TOCA 1 & 2 and GRID laying around that maybe playable online. I also like Tequillers idea to make a mission for ArmA2 that revolves around driving but this kind of mission has still to be made i think.
At the moment sgt.Pim, Madboy and me are playing some NFS Shift 2: Unleashed (7,50€ @ GamersGate.com) every now and then its not a bad game with multiple car classes and lots and lots of tracks.

It's been kind of quiet in this corner of our fanclub are you still working on the project or should it be considered finished as is? Another thing i was thinking about was the fact that at this time the video has absolutely nill to do with us. I mean there is no logo's no text no links or nothing that links us -=XTRA=-'s with this video in the movie. If you still plan on doing this that is great of course and if not i will just have to remove the title -=XTRA=-Trailer and rename it to Arma2:OA trailer. Or if you have another plan please enlighten us on what that plan might be!

Very nice! This is a great movie and the 11minutes fly by like its only 3, never a dull moment so the progress is more than good and I’m seen it all and am a hard man to please. a few little pointers i still have might you want to continue to make the video even more perfectly realistic.:


-Maybe some cut scene text (intro, area / combat information (during film), outro)
-Use a soundmod like JSRS this sounds much more realistic some say the sound of Anders is better) for better likeness with reality and emersion etc.
-Try to replace the current armor technician @ 4:37 with a civil or aircraft carrier technician or something if possible?

The video already gets 7.5 points and maybe some small changes can turn this video into an unforgettable piece of art!

Nice video KanuganeKaleeb, this definitely has potential. All i think you need to add is a stronger story line, text que, maybe some character buildup, and preferably a more realistic airfield and town with more real-world items and civi's really doing something 'daily'. For now it’s a little bit boring in comparison with the hundreds of other clips out there but i think you got what it takes to make something beautiful that many A2 and AA fans will come to love!
BTW.: What clan are you in we know quite a few trough the tournaments we have held in the past maybe we can all come together for a massive movie / game one day?

Great idea! I really like the effects that you have used in your test movie! I can help as almost anything except the after effects of the video. Just start thinking about "what needs to be done" and will give it a go!
The procedure to get an empty vehicle in the editor is easy. : First you place a 'playable' unit (infantry). Then you automatically get a new option called "empty" in the menu and you can place it from there!

So all i can do is wish them good luck with their future efforts in a gaming community. Hopefully they will respect other people there more when they understand they are as human as the next guy and deserv proper respect. For us the issues are solved and our private TeamSpeak3 server is calm once again as it should be and soully for our main purpose called 'Gaming'!}

After some consideration and looking on the TeamSpeak Community i found this great way of using 25 different ranks for our members to prevent "rank pulling" in the future. Sinds we all have to answer to the same principal rules in the end! Once i have set it up we can begin testing this and i will post more about the ‘how's and what’s’!
